Although there were a couple nuggets of insight, the Energy Codes overall was a heavy read and difficult to get through. It was full of chakra balancing exercises that never seemed to end and the miraculous stories told throughout, were very difficult to believe. The large medical disclaimer at the beginning of the book didn’t help to inspire much confidence either.I found this disappointing because Dr Morter seems like a good speaker, but somehow it didn’t translate well into the written form. The heaviness causes one to lose motivation from the very beginning, until you wind up giving up one way or another. Personally, I find it difficult to believe humans need all these extensive balancing exercises to be connected, while animals and plants need none.**Beware of reviews**This book was released on March 19th, but if you notice, many of the reviews here were made the exact same day of the books release. I find this very suspicious, considering Dr Morter herself stated it takes weeks to put her exercises into practice. To start this review, I will disclose that I am an MD, with 40 years of experience in Internal Medicine. As to Dr. Morter, in the book cover, there is no mention of what kind of a doctor she is. Early in the book she talks about being invited to be on the Board of Chiropractic examiners in her state so I assume she is a chiropractor. Now, why are chiropractors so reluctant to put D.C. after their name? Do they want the honor of the title of "Doctor" but not clarify exactly what kind of a doctor they are? This alone, to me, points to a kind of a self promotion and being ashamed of D.C.The Energy "Codes" is just a fancy word for practices. YOGA practices. These are esoteric (secretive) practices that your yoga teacher is not at all likely to teach. These practices are hundreds, perhaps thousands of years old. They are all described in great detail in a 15th century book called the Hatha (hut-ha) Yoga Pradipika (pradeepika) Dr. Morter does acknowledge the fact that ancient Indian teachings have been of great value to her, which is excellent. I have taught various yoga practices to my patients over many years, including the pelvic contraction exercise, known in medicine as the Kegel exercise. In medicine, I guess, there might be a method hundreds of years old, but if such a method has not been published in an accepted medical journal, the author who first does it is entitled to his name on that procedure or technique. Ah, well, such is life. Anyhow the "kegel" exercise is the yogic Mula (moola) bandha (bun-dha) the bun rhymes with run, fun. This is also well known in the Chinese system of Chi Kung. Mantak Chia and others have stated years ago that the practice, along with developing pressure in the lower abdomen by deep diaphragmatic inspiration, energizes the lower abdomen, called the lower Dan Tien (energy center) in Chinese. The exercise helps manage and even prevent uterine prolapse in women so it is essential for all women to learn it and practice it. Especially after childbirth. But in Christian America, you start using words like Moola Bandha, and patients are likely to walk out the door! No, advising the Kegel exercise would be the best. I once taught a patient the fish posture for neck pain, and she looked at me strangely. After that I started using the term "thoracic hyperextension" and found people were gung-ho about it and were happy to learn it! Such is the prejudice against eastern wisdom in Christian America. Yoga is frowned upon as a satanic practice among countless Christians.I like how Dr. Sue clearly states what I believe to be entirely true: we living beings are just bundles of energy at various frequencies. In Yoga the energy that flows through the body is called Prana (praana). Improper flow leads to disease. I believe that excess muscle tension impairs the flow of Prana particularly leading to degenerative disease of the joints for instance. So Yoga and Chi Kung relax the muscles to help the flow. Not a single yoga teacher I have known has ever mentioned this concept which I really believe in. Without a fundamental knowledge of yoga, an average American Joe picking up this book, may well just put it back on the shelf!Health can never come from just doing practices (codes) such as the ones in this book. We need mental relaxation, joy in life, a health diet, activity such as walking, fresh air, and so on. I love to do a blend of Indian and Chinese Yoga which I like to call my Chi Yoga practice!To summarize, this is certainly a worthwhile book to read for someone exploring the healing arts. That will lead the buyer to the author's website and YouTube videos. Those videos were a major disappointment for me. She talks on and on but I found it very difficult to gather what points she was trying to make. Well, to each his or her own. Perhaps many people will find her an inspiration in their journey to wellness and happiness. People often don't realize that Yoga is really the heart and soul of Hinduism, which never was, and is not, a narrow ideology but rather a collection of practices and tradition accumulated over thousands of years. The freedom to QUESTION is an essential part of Hinduism. Anything taught must be proven and Hinduism allows people to discover their inner truth, wisdom and power.
